Paris Marathon & 70’s Running Playlist

Since my last post I managed to catch the Paris Marathon on one of the cable sports channels.  What an impressive run!

Kenyan Stanley Biwott, won the men’s title with a new Paris marathon record of 2 hours 5 minutes and 11 seconds.  This meant he was averaging over 20km per hour each 10km split.  They actually completed the half marathon in under an hour.

Ethiopian Tirfi Beyene grabbed the women’s title with a record time of 2 hours 21 minutes and 40 seconds.  Amazing times I’m sure you will agree.

Kind of makes my own running efforts seem a little feeble now.  But it did inspire me to a good time the next morning and has given me more confidence to push the boundaries of my own endurance.  I never cease to be amazed by how much the human body can endure and achieve and when I watch the elite athletes competing.

Also, what a great city to be running a marathon in.  It was brilliant seeing all the familiar sites of Paris as the runners sprinted the 42.2kms – I’m ready to go back!    And now really looking forward to the Gold Coast!!

With The Great Train Race against Puffing Billy only a week or so away I’ve decided not to overdo this week (good excuses are hard to come by).  After the Puffing Billy race the distances and times increase significantly as we countdown the weeks to the Gold Coast Marathon.

By the way, fundraising is going well – we’re almost half way to the target and still around 10 weeks to go.  Thanks to all who have supported us so far – it’s been incredible.

My runs since my last post are linked below on Endomondo for those interested in having a look.

11.52 kms in 1 hour

19.87kms in just under 2 hours – a slow run all things considered.  Nice day for it though along Eastlink – I chose the path that was a bit off the beaten track today.

Last post I said I would provide my top 5 running songs from the 70’s from my playlist, and here they are:

Nutbush City Limits – by Ike & Tina Turner
You Just Like me ‘Cos I’m Good in Bed – by Skyhooks
Disco Inferno – by The Trammps
Superstition – by Stevie Wonder
ABC – by the Jackson 5

Chris from the “Running Farce” blog (if you haven’t checked it out do so!) commented that he didn’t feel he would be able to hold solid form while listening to Whip It by Devo… Nutbush City Limits holds much the same challenge! 🙂

Special mention to Martha and the Muffins for “Echo Beach” – not quite the 70’s and should have got into my 80’s top ten!!

Happy running!!
